Pool robots: which ones work and what they cost

Of every robot sold for the home, this is the one that makes the most sense in this city. Nearly every villa has a pool, the dust never stops falling into it, and unlike a humanoid, this machine does the entire job by itself and has done for years.

What a good one actually does

The current generation is cordless, which matters more than it sounds: no hose, no pump connection, nothing to trip over. You drop it in and take it out. A capable unit covers five things:

The Dubai-specific point. Fine desert dust is not leaves. It floats briefly and then settles into a film across the floor, so a robot that only skims the surface leaves your pool grey, and one that only does the floor leaves a ring at the waterline. If you are going to buy one here, buy one that does both.

What they cost

Prices in the UAE, indicative and confirmed before any order:

TierIndicative priceWhat you get
Entry cordless ~4,800 AED Floor and walls, decent battery, no surface skimming. Fine for a covered or heavily used pool that gets manual attention anyway.
Full coverage ~8,400 AED Floor, walls, waterline and surface, plus water clarification, mapping and up to around ten hours of runtime on surface mode. This is the tier that genuinely replaces the weekly manual clean.
Solar skimmer ~1,200 AED Floats permanently, runs on sun, only skims. A good companion to a floor robot rather than a replacement for one.

What the top of the range actually specifies

Numbers matter more than adjectives here, so these are the published figures for the machine most people end up buying, the Beatbot AquaSense 2 Ultra:

Beatbot AquaSense 2 Ultra
Price
2,299 USD, about 8,437 AED, reduced from a 3,150 USD list price
Cleans
Five zones: floor, walls, waterline, surface, plus water clarification
Battery
13,400 mAh lithium
Runtime, surface
Up to 10 hours skimming
Runtime, floor
About 5 hours
Runtime, walls and waterline
About 4.5 hours
Charge time
About 4.5 hours to full
Cable
None. Fully cordless, so no hose, no pump connection, nothing to trip over
Navigation
Mapping with camera assistance rather than random bounce patterns

The runtime figures are the ones worth reading twice. Ten hours on the surface means it can sit in the pool all day skimming dust as it lands, which in this city is a completely different proposition from a machine that does one ninety minute cycle and stops. Dust here does not arrive once; it arrives continuously.

See it working before you decide

The manufacturer's own footage, which for once shows the machine doing exactly what the specification claims:

The five questions to ask before you buy one

  1. Does it do the waterline? This is the single biggest difference between tiers. The waterline is the greasy band where sunscreen and dust collect, it is what visitors see, and cheaper machines skip it entirely.
  2. Does it skim the surface as well as vacuum the floor? In Dubai you want both. Fine dust floats briefly and then sinks, so a surface-only skimmer leaves a grey floor and a floor-only vacuum leaves a dirty ring.
  3. How does it get out? The good ones park themselves at the edge on low battery so you are not fishing a 10 kg machine off the bottom with a pole.
  4. What is the real runtime in the mode you will use? Manufacturers quote the longest mode. Wall climbing is always the shortest, because it fights gravity.
  5. Is it cordless? Anything with a floating cable will tangle, and the cable is the part that fails.

Where these machines fail

An honest list, because it is short and it matters:

Honest note before you buy from me

Some of these models are now sold directly on Amazon.ae and Noon, and if all you want is the box at the lowest possible price, buy it there and I will happily tell you which one to pick. What I offer instead is that I get it to you, set it up in your pool, show you how it docks and charges, and answer the phone when something goes wrong.

If that is worth something to you, write to me. If it is not, you now have the information anyway, which was the point.

Ask before you buy

Tell me the size and shape of your pool, whether it is tiled or plaster, and whether it is covered. That is enough for me to tell you which tier you need, or that you do not need one at all.
